My snowshoes

sink down into the snow that’s so powdery there is no

wet, only flakes of ice crystals mixed with air.

“This reminds me of something.”

I think it again and again as I’m walking through the

snow that isn’t really snow at all, it’s . . . it’s . . .

potato flakes! I realize that it what the snow brings to mind:

instant potatoes spread across the hillsides.

Eat the snow: it is cold and freezing and cold.
